Incontinence in men is not nearly as common as it is with women and perhaps that's the reason that men tend to be more embarrassed and less willing to discuss it. That's really unfortunate because there are a number of male incontinence products available that can allow them to lead a life without concern for embarrassing moments.
Incontinence in men is usually, but not always, associated with prostate problems. Enlarged prostates or treatments for prostate cancer can cause stress incontinence by weakening or placing undo pressure on the sphincter that controls urine flow. Simple stresses on the abdominal area like sneezing, coughing or laughing can cause an unwanted leakage. Men may also be subject to urge incontinence, a more common condition in older men, where there is an urgent and frequent need to urinate.
What's important, and what many men are unaware of, is there are products that can deal with the incontinence while they work on curing or reversing the condition. These undergarments include:
- Male Guards. These are adhesive backed pads that attach to regular underwear that absorb leakage and eliminate odor. Male guards are a discreet method to provide the protection that a male needs and are impossible to detect.
- Boxer and Briefs. These are reusable cotton underwear in which a disposable pad can be placed to absorb leakage. These look just like ordinary underwear and are machine washable.
- Disposable Pants. These provide the same protection as boxers and briefs except they are disposable. This is an ideal solution for men who travel a great deal and do not have time to do laundry.
